Yes, Better Kids is committed to supporting emotional growth in all children. Wisdom is based on universal design principles. As an interactive tool for visual support, it can support the emotional development of all children by teaching them how to recognize emotions in themselves and others.

Is Wisdom available on iOS and Android?

Yes, you can download Wisdom in the App Store and Google Play Store.

Is it free to download?

Yes, Wisdom is free to download. To access free content, you can select on the home screen of the app whether you are a parent or an educator. If you enjoyed the free games and resources, you can access extensive content by subscribing.

Is there a subscription?

Yes, there is a monthly and yearly subscription option for parents and educators.

How can I cancel my subscription?

If you purchased your subscription on the App Store, here are the steps to cancel your subscription. If you purchased your subscription on the Google Play Store, here are the steps to cancel your subscription.

What languages are currently available?

Wisdom is currently available in English, French, and Ukrainian.

Is it similar to Montessori?

Wisdom aligns with Montessori methodology of learning through play with an emphasis on independent learning.

Can kids use the app independently?

Wisdom’s interactive games were designed for children to play independently. The additional hands-on activities and printables require additional parent and educator support depending on the reading-level of the child.

Besides the app, are there other resources for children?

Our collection of printed books and SEL-themed workbooks are a helpful complement to the app. Whether your child is keen on read-alouds, meditations, reflection, or crafts you will find different options in our Shop.

 Technical

Can Wisdom be used on all devices?

The Wisdom app is compatible with iphones, ipadOS, ipod touch with iOS 13.0 or later, macOS 11.0 or later, Chromebooks and all Android devices. Most Amazon Fire tablets are also compatible. The web version of Wisdom is accessible via Desktop only.

Can Wisdom be used offline?

Yes, the Wisdom app is fully accessible offline. If you are using the web-version on your Desktop, an Internet connection is required.

I purchased a subscription via the App Store or the Google Play Store, how can I log in to the web-version?

Before you log in, we need to activate your web account. Please email us at joy@betterkids.education to request free access.

How can I print the pdf resources if my device isn’t connected to a printer?

Please watch this video and follow the steps below:

  • on your device, go to the ressource you'd like to print and select "Print" at the top of your screen
  • you will then see a preview of the resource in the Printer Options pop up
  • pinch your screen with two fingers as if you wanted to zoom into the preview of your resource
  • a new window is created with a share icon at the top right corner. This will allow you to save on your Google Drive, send to your computer or email.

You can also access the web version directly on your computer.

How can I change the language setting in the app?

  • On iOS, the app will automatically set to the language of your device. To change languages, go to your device's Settings button and scroll all the way down until you see Wisdom. Click on Wisdom and at the bottom, click on "Preferred Language". You will be offered a choice of French, English, or Ukrainian. If one of these languages don't appear in your choices, got to Settings>General>Language & Region: click on Add Language to add English, French, or Ukrainian if they are missing.
  • On Android, the app will automatically set to the language of your device. To change languages, you will need to change the default language of your device by going to Settings > General Management > Language and Input > Language. If the app remains in a language that is different from your device's language, try restarting your device.

How can I hear the sound?

If you can hear the sound of your other apps but not that of Wisdom, follow these steps.

Which devices support augmented reality breathing exercises?

Wisdom will automatically detect if your device supports augmented reality. Here is the list of iOS devices that support AR. Here is the list of Android devices that support AR.

Parents

Is there a guide for parents?

Yes, you can access the Parents' Guide here .

How can Wisdom be used by parents?

Wisdom can help kids build positive relationships, make responsible decisions, and learn healthy coping strategies with fun, interactive digital games and engaging Augmented Reality features. The app’s Parent Board offers printables and hands-on activities that help children practice mindfulness, healthy coping strategies, gratitude and more, both independently and together with their caregiver. Parents can also access parenting tips in the Parent Board that will help address common challenges such as a hitting child, sibling conflicts, developing independence, managing screen time and more.

What level of support is required by parents?

Children may need initial support navigating the app. The games within the Kingdoms of Anger and Fear as well as the Augmented Reality feature were designed for children to play independently. The additional printables and hands-on activities found in the Children’s Activities section may require more parent support depending on the child’s reading-level.

How frequently and for how long should my child be playing?

Each child is unique and as a parent, you know your child’s needs best. As a reference, a scientific study showed positive outcomes of Wisdom on children’s emotional regulation after 8 weeks of playing Wisdom 3 times a week for 10 minutes each.

Can I install Wisdom on multiple devices with the same subscription?

Yes, 1 subscription can be shared across up to 6 devices.

How can parents use activities to better support their children using Wisdom?

The additional activities in the Children’s Activities section are broken down into categories to help parents support their children in the development of skills such as problem solving, empathy, and more. These activities will build upon the skills learned within the digital games. Additionally, in-app questions are provided in the form of interviews to help the parent and child reflect together on the skills learned. Once all the interviews are completed, a personalized digital book about your child’s journey with Wisdom is accessible directly in the app.

Educators

Is there a guide for Educators?

How can Wisdom be used for educational purposes by teachers?

Wisdom for educators includes 20 lesson plans to guide PreK-2nd grade students through a scaffolded curriculum, 18 additional read-aloud lessons, 50 printables worksheets and over 300 simple SEL activities for daily practice.

What setup does Wisdom require?

You can download Wisdom on multiple devices or use the desktop version on multiple devices with the same login information. Students will make their own progress on their own unique devices.

Is this free?

You can access some free content in the freemium version of Wisdom available to download. To access the full content, student, class, or school licenses are available for purchase here or in the app.

How long do the lessons take?

Each lesson takes about 30 minutes total, including 10 minutes of digital play and 20 minutes of hands-on activities. If you don’t have time for 30-min lessons, you can use Wisdom’s short daily practice activities that span 3-10 minutes.

Has Wisdom’s efficacy been proven?

Yes, Wisdom is evidence-based: a Randomized Control Trial showed Wisdom games improve children’s emotion regulation and focus on learning. Read an abstract of the RCT results.

How can I track my students’ progress?

If you are using iOS devices, you can assign homework to your students and track their progress through the Schoolwork app. If your classroom is using Android devices or if you are not using the Schoolwork app, you can track progress on each tablet in the Educator Board. Please note there are no individual student accounts, so if students are sharing devices, the statistics would have to be reset for each child.

Is Wisdom suitable for both in person and virtual learning?

Yes, presentation slides of the lessons are available for virtual learning.

Can Wisdom be used in small groups or individual settings, in addition to whole class instruction?

Yes, the lesson plans are available for individual, small group, and whole class instruction.

What will my students do in the game?

Students will have time to play on the app on their own devices. Each lesson focuses on a certain activity. Students will use this time to play just that one activity and win as many superpowers as they can. As they improve, the app will automatically move the student up through the 5 difficulty levels and track how many superpowers they have won in their Statistics board.
